Description
Altering a barrel channel is often required during a barrel change. It can also benefit as a performance gain by free-floating* the barrel ahead of the recoil lug.
Traditionally this process has been performed with a variety of hand tools. Our use of CNC machining ushers the process into the modern age. An exact model of the barrel being fitted is made in the computer. Next, tool paths are created using 3D surface machining strategies, resulting in an offset surface with perfect presentation.

This video details our entire stock fitment and pillar bedding service. The barrel channel work starts at 2:50.
Carbon inlay:
Adding some flair to the job with our carbon inlay option. Here, the barrel channel is inlayed with 3M Cast heavyweight carbon vinyl for a unique look. This service is purely cosmetic and offers no performance gain.

NOTE: Carbon Wrap is only available for composite and wood stocks with a conventional barrel channel. Channels with pockets do not qualify for this service.
Limitations:
It is important to know that the rifle stock determines the physical size limits of a barrel contour. The margins along the showline should never be exceeded or taken “to the edge” as it results in severe chipping due to lack of material. This is especially important on sporter/hunting type stocks fitted with barrels where the client requests that the maximum amount of cylinder directly ahead of the recoil lug/receiver face is preserved.
LRI reserves the right to use good judgment on this practice. Clients will be contacted before any work takes place on jobs that might be questionable.
